Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim and its definitely the most visited place in Sikkim for many prominent reasons. Gangtok has great transport connectivity to major tourist hubs like Siliguri/New Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and kalimpong and it can be used as a base for important treks, sightseeing tours and this city got awesome hotels, delicious food and a buzzing nightlife scene along with plenty of shopping options. Gangtok stands on a ridge which is about 5,500 feet in altitude and remains sheathed in clouds most of the times.
Goecha la is located at an altitude of 4,940 meter in Sikkim which is a popular high mountain pass and serves as the base camp for southeast Kanchenhunga. Kanchenjunga National Park
Kanchenjunga National Park is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites which is the first Mixed Heritage Site of India. Namchi’s meaning is Sky High in Sikkimese and it’s the capital of South Sikkim. Namchi is the beautiful sight which is covered with snowcapped mountains and the woodland mountain valleys and it’s the profusion of tourist activities. Pleasant weather and numerous attractions along with a strong religious tourism have all contributed to this town’s popularity. Tourists can also experience the copies of all Char Dhaams of India which is constructed in Solophok hill with an 87 feet high statue of Lord Shiva. Namchi is located 100 kms away from Siliguri and 78 kms from Gangtok.
Tsomgo Lake which is also known as Changu Lake located just 40 kms away from Gangtok, is the most popular attraction for tourists in Sikkim and most tourists consider this place as the next stop after Gangtok has been explored. Tsomgo Lake is under the protected area and people need to get a permit to visit here. Travel agents can easily arrange this permit. Snaky road through rocky mountains which takes people to Tsomgo Lake is a lot of adventure in itself and this lake is considered to be the highest place in Sikkim which is around 3780 meters altitude. People will also experience a small Shiva temple on the shore of the lake. The lake water originate from the melted snow from nearby mountains. Gurudongmar Lake is located at an altitude of 17,800 feet high plateau area of Sikkim and its one of the highest lakes in the world. This lake is the holiest water body for Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists. It will take around 4 hours to reach Gurudongmar Lake from lachen coz the roads to reach this lake are rough and steep. The lake is fed naturally by the glaciers and from the months of November to May, this lake is totally frozen. Tourists can observe the rapid landscape chages from Lachen to Gurudongmar. Once reach the lake, people can experience the snowy mountains all around and this lake is huge lake which is about 290 acres in large area. The lake water are considered to possess healing properties and Tourists also can visit the Padmasambhava Temple on the bank of this lake.
Pelling is the well known name in the tourism of Sikkim from last few years. This pretty little town is located in the height of 6800 feet from sea level which gives tourist a nice mountain view of the peaks of Koktang, Kabru, Pandim, Kanchenjuga and Siniolchu. Pelling is the second most visited attraction for tourists after Gangtok and it has several beautiful monasteries as well. This small town will sweep you away with its lush forests and varied wildlife and people can easily discover this small town by their foot, it provides a plenty of sightseeing opportunities. People can visit many monasteries in Pelling like Pemayangste, Sanga Choeling and Thangkas.
Ravangla is still untouched and hidden beauty, covered by dense forests and outstandingly balanced on a ridge superintending an extensive swish of Western Sikkim. Ravangla assures one of the most beautiful mountain views and its perched at an average elevation of 8000 feet from sea level, surrounding with good views of Mount Kanchenjunga, Mount Sinialchu, Mount Kabru and other popular peaks. There is an area in Ravangla which known as Upper Ravangla sees snowfall and this area has a wide profusion of flowers which giving a ravishing look during April and May. Ravangla is a popular tourist place in Sikkim which draws many nature lovers every year.
Zuluk is located at a high altitude of 10,000 feet from sea level on the rough lower Himalayas in Eastern Sikkim. Zuluk is one of the offbeat tourist places in Sikkim. Zuluk is a small but antique and beautiful village beside a long winding road. People can travel Zuluk from Gangtok and distance between Gangtok to Zuluk is around 90 kms. Zuluk offers a great views of the snowcapped mountain ranges, especially during winter and it’s a fabulous place to see for those who looking for snowfall in Sikkim. Zuluk has a very empowering history due to its connection with the Silk Route that extends from Tibet to India. Around 700 people live in this small village and there is an Indian Army Base Camp too. Chinese border is also not very far from Zuluk.
